Emerdale Estate
Hey! Welcome to the showing of The Emerdale Estate . I appreciate you stopping
by. Feel free to comment, leave suggestions, or just say hello!
A little bit about the house first. This home was built over a great period of time. It was originally started by Architect John Emerdale and his wife Liza. John built the Annex with his own two hands, then Liza and he moved into it. John and his wife expanded the house when the time came to need more space. The two have long passed, but the home still carries a portrait and mementos for them (you'll see that in the pics). It continued that way for a few generations, building on when needed. Currently it houses seven Emerdale relatives, with pets! The family stepped out for a little while so I could take pictures.
The home has:
3 bedrooms
2.5 bathrooms
A study
Rec room
Large dining room
Sitting room
Large kitchen
Breakfast nook with garden view
Great family backyard
An Annex, which has
1 bedroom
1 bath
Kitchen
Living area
Back Foyer
This house was built for a challenge! The BnS Challenge #85. The challenge was to download this shell and decorate it! No limits on simoleans but you couldn't change the actual house shell. Usually when I have a home to do some landscaping on, with no limits, the place is loaded with bushes and flowers of all sorts. This time, with this big of a house, I thought maybe "less is more". I don't like to have a busy busy place with too much to see so with a huge home like this, I kept it to a minimum. It seems to work really well.
This challenge offered four items of decoration to chose inspiration from. My choice was this flower pot:
Everyone is different, of course, and when I saw this flower pot/watering can I felt 'homey, country, full of life, and maybe a little old fashioned.' This would also include bringing greenery inside! I tried my best to keep this theme through the whole house, but I also decorate rooms per sim personalities. Tying them together can be difficult at times, and I hope I did well enough.
Lets get into the tour, with some random commentary as well. You'll learn about the house and some of the family members that live here.
We'll start with an outdoor expedition:
Views of the outside of the house
Closer, more detailed views of the yard
Garden and garden shed
The little garden shed, holds everything a working gardener needs! Luckily we have one living in the house. She loves having all her supplies handy and close by.
Starting into the family area of the backyard
Nice, cozy fire area
Some pictures of the porch area. Including a place for a workbench. I like those outside so that the wood dust flies away, and it's easier to clean up.
The newest thing on the lot is the pool area! The family just splurged and built a deck with pool for those hot summer days. Lay back and get some sun on some very comfortable lounge chairs, or sit at the table and have brunch under the shade of an umbrella.
The path continues around the yard to the left side of the house. We have here a small pet cemetery. After all, generations of both pets and sims have lived in the house!
Here's just a small seating area on the side porch
A couple of night views. I think the house lights up beautifully.
Overhead pictures of the yard
Two overview pictures of the whole lot
Now lets head inside and see what this large home has to offer.
First we start in the Foyer, which has a large walk in coat closet for any residents or visitors. Also contains a notice board for any important information the family needs to know right away.
An overhead shot of the entire coat room, including little closet
Next we have a small entry hallway to the rest of the house. This area contains one of the family members collection of bird items, he's always been a fanatic of the fowl. Plenty of pictures, feathers, and artifacts to check out. Also attached here is a half bath
The half bath
Next we move into the dining room. I would say that it's the 'formal' dining room, but it's not. It's used for any meal that anyone wants! Even a casual brunch. The surrounding decor is a calming theme, to help your body relax and digest properly.
Next we'll head into the seating area. A place to relax by a warm fire with a drink, whether it be Brandy, wine, or water. A piano sits by for some calming tunes while you chill. Plenty of greenery to make this place feel very homey.
Here, in the sitting room, is the portrait of John Emerdale and wife Liza. Beneath the picture is the very quill he used to write his love letters to Liza while he was building the first part of this house. The second object is a newer piece, a small token of where the two started to settle. This house was one of the first to be in Newcrest, which has blossomed into a full town since these two built a home here.
A walkway and entry to the study. Most of the men in the family have always been interested in the sea, ships, and exploration. This is where they've accumulated their artifacts to be on display. It's a great, calm, room to sit and read. Still carrying the theme with older style furniture and many plants, this study fits in wonderfully with this fantastic home.
From here, we'll skip over to the kitchen. It's a large room with tons of counter space, and storage. Which is good since, after generations, a family accumulates lots of stuff to put away!
This kitchen has a small breakfast nook, settled next to a wonderful view of the garden and backyard. Sitting here to have your morning coffee, or tea, while you watch the sunrise is a perfect way to start your day.
Here are some overhead shots of what we just explored.
The Entry and stairway:
The Kitchen, dining:
The Sitting area and Study
This is the stairway leading to the second story, some plants and lovely curtains make this area feel light and spacious.
Just at the top of the stairs we have a great seating area with a bookcase here for any reading you might want to do. A beautiful grandfather clock sounds off on the hour with a brief song, giving a warm feeling to the landing area. Some potted lavender and sunflowers give this room a bright country feel as well.
The upper landing also has a full bathroom:
We will take a look at the family room next. It's the only room with any electronic entertainment. Most times, everyone is outside, but the whole family has something to do in here. With things ranging anywhere from a box of toys to an amazing lazer light display, you'll never get bored in the family rec room! Lots of windows bring that natural light indoors. Even all these wonderful plants enjoy that.
The master suite has lots to see. Even it's own unique garden feature. The people staying in here currently have a little cat who has her own space. She stays in the entry area to this room.
The middle of the room is where you can get a great work out, portioned off from the rest of the area so that you can have a little privacy while you pump iron.
Now we get to the sleeping area of the suite. It's very cozy with inviting colors. This is also where the lady of the house has put up her painting area. She's even decorated the room with some of her own art work. The garden feature helps keep her inspired, as does the view this huge window has to offer. She loved the view so much that she didn't even want to put up curtains as they would block it out!
The painting area, and garden features.
A view from the outside
Every master suite needs an attached bathroom! Let's check this one out. The colors, soft lighting, and plants create a very warm and calming environment. Plenty of storage for linens and even a chair to sit on while you apply lotion after a luxurious bath. Or just to sit and dry off without risk of falling over.
Now we'll be off to the kids' room. Here stays a set of twins, remarkable in every way. Almost complete opposites! One girl, who is very creative, loves to draw like her mother, and is also interested in making music. She has her own violin to practice on for now.
She shares her room with her brother, who is very interested in science and technology. He's got a chemistry station all set up, with beakers for his experiments. He's working a few things at present. He's also into robots, and made one for a school project. The little guy enjoy comics too, his mother gave him a birthday painting with a piece of a comic strip he loves.
Anyone who has kids knows there's going to be some wear and tear on the walls. Maybe scratches where they play most often, or a hole where the doorknob has hit the wall too many times. You know kids don't care about that kind of thing!
Her side:
His side:
Onto the teens room. He's quite a character. Still having the old fashioned or more natural furniture, but changed to his liking. He's quite Emo actually, and has stained as much as he can black. This teen is really into basket ball and being active. He's even got his own mini basketball court that most of his time is spent playing with. He dreams of the day his parents will install a real hoop in the backyard for him.
Here are some overhead shots of what we've just toured.
The Kids' rooms and family den:
The Master bedroom and en Suite
One more place we've yet to visit. The original start to the house, built by John Emerdale. This is now been converted to the Mother In Law Suite. It's perfect for the wonderful woman living here currently. She's the household gardener, and has a little thing for chickens. She had some when she was growing up and misses them a lot. Her annex is actually separate from the house, giving her her own space and feeling of an apartment just for her.
Her little entry. The annex is open floor plan and plenty of space
The living area, where she has a great warm fire to sit by and surrounded by sunflowers.
The little dining space, which she has set at all times. With space for company - just in case.
The kitchen has lots of counter space and everything she needs for hosting a great tea party, or luncheon.
This is the small hallway that connects her bedroom and bathroom to the living area
The full bathroom
Now into her bedroom which she's always found very welcoming. She often relaxes in her bed and spends the day reading. Of course, her room wouldn't be complete without a chicken adorning the dresser.
Her bedroom has an entry way just for her. It leads out onto her own personal small porch, right next to the garden that she tends.
This is her garden, as seen in previous pictures
Here is a collection of overview shots to see it all at once.
That concludes the tour for the Emerdale Estate. I really hope you enjoyed the house! Leave a comment if you'd like, or follow to get updates when there's a new home to enjoy. I upload most of them for you to use.
The house cost is §389,471
